Like most people in her situation, Lisa figured the key to getting the body she wanted was to do more cardio, so she increased her cardio to running on the treadmill for an hour everyday. Once again she experienced a small drop in her weight, and no change in her body shape. Lisa was eating next to nothing and burning up to 700 calories a day during her cardio sessions. Like most of us,she had always been told that to lose weight all you had to do was burn more calories than you ate. She was doing that but her body was not changing.

When we finally met, Lisa was at her wits end. She was convinced that she was destined to carry the extra weight for the rest of her life. I assured her that I had worked with many people who just like her had fallen for the cardio trap. At my heaviest weight of 275lbs I was faced with the realization that I was out of shape, miserable and about to drop out unless I got myself into shape.

Like most people I did tons of cardio and ate healthier foods, I lost weight but I was still far from the ideal body size I wanted to be. I knew I wanted to have a lean, fit body. I was doing everything the magazines and so called experts had recommended for weight loss but it just wasn’t cutting it, I was still soft. Well I know better know and I will tell you that what the magazines and most experts say is BS!

    The longer we engage in higher-level aerobic activities, the more ‘cortisol’ we produce. Cortisol acts as a stress hormone that does two things to halt our fat loss. First thing cortisol does is break down fat and muscle tissue, why is this bad? The less muscle we have the slower our metabolism works to break down stubborn body fat. Secondly elevated Cortisol levels can actually make you gain weight right around your stomach, meaning if a nice flat tummy is your goal, we should reduce cortisol.

  3. Then we introduce you to Interval trainingFACT: Interval training has been proven to be far more effective when it comes to fat loss than other types of conditioning for fat loss

    Several studies have compared interval training to more traditional forms of continuous aerobic exercise, with the majority pointing the way to interval exercise as a superior way to lose weight. A group of overweight women were assigned to one of two groups. The first group trained using high intensity intervals, which involved periods of high and low intensity training. Group two exercised at a steady state. Results showed that fitness levels in the interval group increased by 13%. No such improvements were found in the steady state group. Changes in body fat were also greater in subjects using interval training. The reason even though calories burned were equal during exercise the intervals helped the women burn more calories over the 24 hours after exercising.
